![]() About UsRebels Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization dedicated to facilitating the rescue and rehoming of stray, abandoned, neglected, abused, and surrendered animals in our community. We are not a shelter but a foster-based rescue group. Rebels Rescue animals are placed with foster families comprised of all volunteers who generously open their homes to animals in need. Rebels animals are provided with all necessary veterinary care. They are checked for internal parasites, fleas, and ear mites, then given treatments and immunizations as required. Cats and kittens are checked for feline leukemia and FIV, dogs and puppies are checked for heartworm, and all animals are treated accordingly. Rebels Rescue is financed by donations. Most of this money comes from the generosity of private donors like you. Our efforts wouldn't be possible without financial support from the many wonderful people who care about the welfare of these animals. Animal Rescues vs. Animal SheltersWhen it comes to helping animals in need, both animal rescues and shelters play vital roles, but they differ in structure, approach, and purpose. Understanding these differences can help you better appreciate the unique mission of Rebels Rescue. Animal RescuesAnimal rescues, like Rebels Rescue, are typically smaller, community-based organizations that rely on volunteer support and private donations from the community. Rescues often work closely with local shelters to take in animals that might otherwise not have a chance at adoption. Unlike shelters, rescues do not have a fixed facility; instead, animals are usually placed in foster homes where they receive more personalized attention, medical care, and socialization. This foster-based approach allows rescues to care for animals as long as it takes to find the right forever home, focusing on quality over quantity. By supporting Rebels Rescue, you are directly helping animals that need extra time, care, and resources to thrive in their future homes Animal SheltersAnimal shelters are often government-funded facilities or large nonprofit organizations that provide short-term housing for animals. They generally take in a large volume of animals, including strays, surrenders, and rescues from other locations. With limited space and resources, shelters focus on providing basic care and work to find homes for animals as quickly as possible. Due to the high intake, some shelters may have limited capacity for longer-term care, and animals who are not adopted quickly may face euthanasia, especially in crowded facilities. Frequently Asked QuestionsWhere are your animals located? All of our cats and dogs are in foster homes, generally in the Tampa, FL area. These foster homes are people just like you and me that want to make a difference in a homeless animal's life. They volunteer to house, feed and give all the basic care for our rescues until they find their forever homes. Where do most of your rescues come from?We receive many requests from the community who have found animals needing help or who are no longer able to care for their pets. We also partner with local shelters to help the most at-risk animals that pass through their doors. Additionally, there are many trappers in our community that request assistance with sick or injured animals.
